Upcoming Microstream enterprise

We are excited to announce that we are going to launch MicroStream Enterprise, soon. MicroStream Enterprise is a powerful extension for EclipseStore. The main features are:

• even faster queries when dealing with big amount of data,
• searching the whole database without the need for pre-loading data in the memory,
• fully automated lazy-loading.

We started developing EclipseStore in 2013. At this time Java enterprise applications were usually big monoliths. That’s why the EclipseStore was built to run embedded within an application in a single JVM on a single server node. In 2021 we have open-sourced the framework and in 2023 EclipseStore became an Eclipse project.

During the last 10 years, cloud computing, horizontally scaling systems, microservices and serverless computing came up. Meanwhile, the Java community has recognizes that microservices is not the perfect approach for every case, because microservices are linked to higher complexity, new big challenges, and additional effort and costs of development. For smaller apps and organizations, microservices can be overkill. At the moment we see a countermovement. More and more experts are convinced that a monolith is not bad thing and if you are not Netflix, microservices is probably not the suited approach for you. Thus, for most Java users, monolithic single JVM applications will be the standard architecture also in the future. That’s why the EclipseStore open-source project delivers enormous added value to the Java community.

Because of the hype on microservices, more and more users asked for distributed, horizontally scalable EclipseStore applications as well as further power features such as indexing. In 2022 we have decided to address these topics. However, especially developing a concept for distributed EclipseStore applications has caused enormously additional effort and financial investment.

In order to ensure that we will be able to continue the EclipseStore open-source project with the usual intensity and dynamism, we have decided to offer distributed EclipseStore applications and the particularly complex additional features as commercial EclipseStore extensions:

• MicroStream Enterprise
